United States is one of the playable factions in Empire: Total War and is available through completing the Road to Independence. The United States can also appear if a rebellion occurs, and succeeds, within (former) thirteen colony territory. The United States is the only emergent faction that is considered a major faction and also the only playable emergent faction without modding. Unlike all other faction campaigns, the American campaign begins in 1783-meaning that objectives must be completed much sooner.

==Overview==

The United States of America is a nation forged in the fires of revolution and rebellion against a British monarch seen as distant, foreign and tyrannical.

After the French and Indian Wars, the British government took an entirely unreasonable line: the American colonists should pay taxes to contribute to the navy and army that helped defend them. After all, those colonial fellows enjoyed the benefits of peace, protected by Britain’s expensive soldiers and sailors. The colonists had other views. The British responded with political stupidity and military ineptitude.

Aided, once they had rebelled, by the French Bourbons (who, for reasons of their own, had every wish to see Britain pre-occupied with war and then humiliated by seditious rebels), the Americans faced down Britain. The struggle split counties, cities, towns, even families, but it united the nation.

In its wake, the revolution left a new kind of nation, a republic where men choose their own destinies, and are not subject to the whims of kings. This spirit of independence is a source of strength: it is an idea worth defending! It is also a source of weakness, for Americans cherish the right to do as they think best. This is not necessarily a good thing in an army.

America now has a future of boundless possibilities. A continent stretches away to the West, and no one is entirely sure what is to be found there. The Atlantic swell washes against the eastern seaboard, and beckons American seamen onwards: trade and adventure lie that way too. There may still be scores to settle with the British in Canada, or ambitious nations from Europe to discourage. There is much to do, if this newest and boldest of nations is to survive and prosper!

==Starting Positions==

The United States start with Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, the Confederation of New England, and Maine. The United States starts in a strong position, surrounded by weak nations with potentially strong enemies far away. These factors mean that it is relatively easy for the United States to dominate the Americas in a short period of time.

This can be different in some situations, should spain hold much of the southern provinces of America and then destroyed (its europeans holdings all lost) then it has been known to emerge from Carolinas, however this is quite rare.

==Details==

The United States has a well-rounded army, with a couple of unique units such as the long riflemen (the American variant of riflemen) and minutemen (slightly superior militia). If the Elite Units of America pack has been purchased, they have access to quite a few unique units, most of them superior variants of line infantry or grenadiers. Most notably, the United States can train the Legion of the United States and the US Marines: unique troops that have some of the strengths of line infantry mixed in with some of the strengths of light infantry. The United States has a rather unique navy, with heavy frigates as its mainstay rather than traditional ships of the line (although these are available too with the right research). It has access to the U.S.S Constitution, a good frigate to add to any navy.

== Overview ==
The administrators of the [[Total War Center]] site and forums are collectively known as the Hexagon Council or 'Hex'. When the new [[Syntagma]] was introduced they ceased to be known as the 'Hexagon Council'. However, eventually the old name was introduced again. Currently, the administrators of TWC are officially known as the Hexagon Council, or Hex in short, again.

This Council is the main body which performs the day to day administering of the [[Total War Center]] and its forums. Council members can be identified as wearing the following badge:

The old system which this is loosely based around was created after the Merger of the [[Total War Center History|Old Hex]] and the [[Total War Center History|Triumvirate]] caused by the aftermath of the [[Total War Center History#Staff rebellion|Staff Reforms]] in October 2006. The internal working of the Council is for the most part determined by itself. Members are usually promoted from [[Moderator|Junior moderators]] following an internal vote, although members may equally be promoted from outside of Staff at the Councils discretion as current events and requirements dictate.

Within Hex there are four permanent seats:

* The Site Owner
* Chief of Content: Serves as Head of the Content Branch
* Chief Technician: Serves as Head of the Technical Branch
* Modding Representative: Serves as liaison with the TW gaming and modding community

The Total War Center's Content Staff is responsible for writing articles and producing valuable content for the site in general. It is divided into several branches, each of which is presided by a Content Editor.

== General Information ==

*[[Omnipotent-Q]] is the current Director of Content. The Content Manager oversees the Content Directors who in turn organize their respective branches of Content. In order to join Content Staff, a member should send a private message to either the Head of Content or to one of the respective Content Directors.

*Although different branches of Content Staff have different badges, all of them can be recognized by their blue names and same badge font color.

*Service in Content Staff is rewarded with Scribe's Quills awards. After three to six months of service, a Content Staff Officer will gain a bronze Scribe's Quill. After seven to twelve months, a silver quill is awarded. Once a Content Staff Officer's time of service exceeds a year, a gold quill will be given to him. Late 2010 three additional awards were created for further service; services for a period of one year and six months to one year and eleven months earns an emerald quill, two years to two years and eleven months for a ruby quill, and lastly an amethyst quill is awarded for those who have served for periods greater then three years.

"To defend the democracy and freedom of TWC, and to ensure fair and just punishment towards those who violate the laws of TWC, a Tribunal shall be established

The purpose of the Tribunal is to provide those members of TWC who have been punished in the past by the Moderation Branch a place to request the reversal of their punishment. This is in no way a guarantee that the punishment will be removed, but every case presented will be reviewed by a panel of three judges.

Members may create a thread in the Tribunal Forum with the Case Number and the name of the appealing member. The Judges will study the case details in a private sub forum, and may request any additional information on the member from the Senior Moderators. The Judges will then post the majority decision in the original thread, and ask the Chief Moderator to remove any warnings if so required. The Judges are not tasked to decide the appropriateness or validity of a Forum Rule of Term of Service, and may only rule on whether the Term was correctly enforced and the punishment suitable for the offence."

==General Information==

Rome 2 Total War, like its predecessor, will be set in Classical Antiquity. The campaign will allow the player to take control of the Roman Republic and, if they choose, transform it into an empire.

===Campaign Map===

The game is set to have a larger campaign map than Rome: Total War, and apart from encompassing the extent of the Roman Empire and its environs, will feature new territories stretching further to the eastern edge of the map.

The diplomacy system will be revamped with a better artificial intelligence, so players can also plan their way to power diplomatically. Creative Assembly acknowledges the various anomalies in previous games, where the AI could perform strange or even suicidal actions, such as small factions declaring war on the whole Roman Empire. This will be looked into in the sequel, and the AI is said to be more "intelligent" and cunning as ever. The choices of the player will influence the AI's attitude toward him or her.

===Engine===

A new graphics engine will power the visuals of the game, encompassing a new lighting system, particles that cast and receive shadows,and new unit cameras that will allow players to focus on individual soldiers in a unit on the battlefield, which in itself may contain thousands of combatants at a time. Creative Assembly has stated that they wish to bring out the more human side of the war this way, with soldiers reacting with horror as their comrades get killed around them, and officers inspiring their men with brief heroic speeches before siege towers make contact with the walls of the enemy city. This will be realized using facial animations for individual units, adding a deeper layer of humanity and realism to the battles, that will allow the player to connect more easily with their armies and its troops. Along with new animations, lead designer James Russell stated in an interview that combat in Rome 2 was to be a "complete meatgrinder", as opposed to individual unit combat animations in Shogun 2. Furthermore, the campaign map will be rendered with the battle map engine. This allows for a much more thorough and accurate terrain cell system, with cells as small as one pixel per meter on the battle map possible.

===Gameplay===

As with Total War: Shogun 2, the player will be prompted with several decisions. The Creative Assembly is expanding on this mechanic, with each decision leading the player down a path which leads to a consequence the player must deal with. These decisions will then affect the way the campaign plays out, such as turning the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. Additionally, rather than solely assigning traits to generals and family members as with previous Total War games, the player can now assign traits to legions as they become hard-bitten veterans through their years of combat experience and conquest. Players can also customize legions by choosing their weapon loadout. This probably means that players will still be able to determine the composition of individual cohorts, even though they will be building entire legions at a time unlike in previous Total War titles where the player had to build all units of an army separately.

Navies will also play an even more important role in Total War: Rome II than in its predecessor. Creative Assembly plans to introduce mixed naval and land combat for land battles and city sieges for the first time in the company's history. This will reflect the naval strategies of the classical era, where coastal cities were conquered and destroyed in great invasions of infantry disembarking from warships. Amphibious attacks are one of the few new concepts that will be available in Rome 2 Total War. Legions can now attack the enemy's ground forces and cities, while naval units provide supporting fire or ram each other far away in the seas. Navies can also conquer poorly guarded coastal cities by themselves. Creative Assembly also plans to make naval units bigger in size, so instead of building one ship per construction, a player can have a formidable navy in shorter time.

Creative Assembly also seeks to capture the uniqueness of different cultures and fighting forces in the ancient times. Jack Lusted, the Creative Assembly's lead unit designer, has stated that instead of the single 'Rebel' faction of the original Rome: Total War there will be a large number of smaller factions, including one for each of the Greek city states. The different factions will have diverse play-styles. A tribe of British barbarians will look and feel completely different from that of a disciplined Roman legion. For example,different agents and technologies will also be implemented for different factions. After all, an inland barbarian tribe would never be able to research the technology for polyremes and other naval weapons of war or have much hope of manufacturing advanced ballistae, etc.
