FactionDetails
Have a look at the main Aztecs page for general information and facts regarding this faction.

Overview
The Aztecs is a "hidden" faction that is discovered only when the player has landed onto the New World territories and sights an Aztec army or settlement. As such they are normally not playable without modifiying the game files.

Military
The Aztecs' main strengths is large numbers of both melee and missile infantry, allowing them to swarm opposing armies and rain missles to whittle their numbers. Their main weaknesses is featuring no cavalry or artillery units in their roster, susceptible to routing in the presence of discharged firearms and cavalry units, and having poor armour defense. Despite fielding large numbers the Aztecs can be easily routed by a technologically advanced enemy.

Religion
The Aztec religion is classified as Pagan, making it difficult for any faction to consolidate their holdings in the New World.

Unique features
The Aztecs have a set of unique traits that focus on Dread and Command, and their settlements consist of walls and a temple that is destroyed once the settlement is taken.

Strategies
Aztec armies rely on dread and numbers to defeat an opponent. Targeting their general in battle can quickly lead to a full-scale rout by the entire army. As they do not have any cavalry, artillery, or gunpowder units as well as a severe deficiency in ranged units, they give the regular factions a huge advantage over the Aztecs, as these can outmanouevre and outrange the infantry-based Aztec units, however it should be noted that Aztec infantry are quite fast.

Modification
The Aztecs are normally not playable in the Grand Campaign. To play as the Aztecs requires modifying the game files.

If you try to play as this faction, you instantly lose and are forced to return to the main menu.

FactionDetails

Overview
Much like the Kingdom of Spain, France starts with weak units when compared to what other factions get at this time. However by the late period they have arguably the best unit roster.
In the early period, France is average in terms of troops available but has a very good opportunity to expand in all directions thanks to the large amount of nearby rebel settlements.

Starting Position
France's starting position in the campaign map is both good and bad. The good part is France is surrounded by rebel settlements to take advantage of. The bad part is, it is unlikely France will be able to take all of these settlements quickly, due to France's mediocre infantry in the early period. On top of that, France is neighbors with quite a few factions to the east, all of which being potential allies, or, more importantly, enemies.

Military
Infantry

French melee infantry are primarily defensive, with only dismounted knights being able to fill any real offensive role. During the early periods, France has the standard lineup of units, however, later into the game France gains even more effective defensive troops, such as voulgiers and pikemen trainable from cities and castles. These units are exceptionally effective in the defense of settlements because of the narrow streets and passageways and attacking army has to navigate.

If the French have a need for pike infantry early in the game, they can recruit mercenary Swiss and Flemish pikemen.

Missiles

Missiles are a glaring weakness in France's military, especially in the early game periods, having only access to peasant archers and crossbowmen. France's missile capability comes out later in the game, gaining access to the longbow armed Scots Guard and crossbow wielding Aventurier, both of which being capable of serving as effective light infantry. Fortunately for France's foes, these elite units require a large amount of development to gain access to and have small recruitment pools.

The Scots Guard themselves have another weakness - due to their use of a longbow they will be too tired to fight effectively in melee if they use all their ammo, so they require some micromanagement on higher difficulty levels.

Cavalry

France has the best and largest variety of heavy cavalry of the catholic factions, including the ability to recruit Lancers, described as the "ultimate knights".

In the later periods of the campaign, France will -- after a bit of development -- be able to train their own longbow armed missile cavalry.

Artillery and Gunpowder

France's artillery and gunpowder are at best mediocre. The best firearm unit France has access to are arquebusiers, which don't stand much of a chance against the gunpowder units of factions such as Milan.

Strategies
Early in the game France has the ability to expand in nearly any direction and being able to ruin the game for another faction simply through denying them extra rebel settlements, if you can put up with the pope an early destruction of the Holy Roman Empire and Milan would be the most beneficial and would knock out the most strong early threats to you. If you want to cut England off quickly, take Rennes and Bruges. However if you wish to stay in the pope's good graces it might be best to simply eradicate Portugal and Spain while creating a alliance with the Holy Roman Empire which will almost entirely cover the potential eastern threats you can get. After that you can march on the Moors and southward even reaching Timbuktu which is very merchant-effective. As France's knights and ranged power are very strong in the late game you should literally be able to destroy any other factions left, barring a strong England, Spain, or the Timurids and Mongols.

Another course of action you can take is to become allies with Scotland. Doing so will have England fighting on two fronts should you decide to move on its territory.

Faction overview
Strengths
Fantastic unit roster, probably the most complete one, especially cavalry. Good late technology. Strong starting standing armed forces. Starts with a medium sized empire with easily conquerable territories 1 or 2 turns journey from the nearest army. Average to good relations with the Pope.

Weaknesses
Insecure starting position, potential enemies from everywhere except the west. Will most likely be involved in an extended war with England or Milan. Quite prone to Spanish and Portugese expansion/aggression. Large empire to defend and protect. Northern France is rather infertile and takes time and considerable investment to develop, not a very resource rich empire. Will most likely have to content with The Holy Roman Empire at some stage, another major power in the area.

Conclusion
A challenging faction to play. If you are able to live through the dark ages and advance your technology and cities somewhat you will be a great western power in Europe and the world. France will have to contend with tough rivals, Milan and The Holy Roman Empire. England will have to be dealt with aswell, by either forging a strong alliance or pushing them off mainland Europe and back to the Isles. Crusading to the Holy land should be a priority to secure a position in the middle east. A wise King shall also seek to expand the empire southward into Iberia, there are many riches to be had and France would do well to weigh into the Iberian conflict.

Overview
The Holy Roman Empire starts in Europe's Middle Ground. The French are a threat to the West, The Danes to the North, Milan and Venice to the South and Rebels and Poles to the East. They are surrounded by opposing factions. Taking Prague (Rebel Occupied) can be a good strategic move on the way to strengthening your position. The Empire also has many other advantages in taking control of the land around them. Since they are the biggest starting faction, they can acquire much more income. With that income, many units can be recruited. Because of the rebels and their weak garrisons, the Empire can take control of 15 regions in 10 turns.

DarthMod Empire is an Empire: Total War game modification which is being developed by a team led by DARTH VADER. DarthMod Ultimate Commander (DMUC) is a massive overhaul mod using DarthMod Empire as a base. Originally developed by Hip63, a new version is now being made by Tango12345. The latest version is 6.95 for DM and DMUC and it requires Empire: Total War version 1.6.

DarthMod Empire attempts to fix various imbalances, gameplay inconsistencies, bugs, AI problems and historical inaccuracies in the Creative Assembly's latest game. Additionally, the mod tries to enhance the gameplay and to increase the game's replayability. Parts of the game have also become more challenging in order to make it even more exciting and fun to play. A complete list of the improvements which DARTH VADER has in mind and of everything which is already fixed in the latest version of his mod can be found here.

Two Different Darth Mods
There are two different variations of the DarthMod for Empire: Total War One is the standard DarthMod and the other is DarthMod Ultimate Commander. The standard DarthMod is Core Changes by DARTH VADER himself which relate mostly to the BAI (Battle AI) and the CAI (Campaign AI) and it allowed several smaller mods such as: Smoke and Blood. DarthMod Ultimate Commander at it's base is the core of DarthMod but many many more smaller mods added into it. It also allows you to launch via a launcher menu from which you can also tweak game settings.

What DarthMod does to Empire
Increased Range on Muskets:
All line infantry have had their ranged increased by about 66%. Their damages at ranges have also be changed dramatically. What this means is that musket duels at extreme ranges are possible, but they result in very long engagements, while very close shots result in massive losses. This vastly changes the tactical landscape, as now the question of just *when* to shoot is up to player skill. In vanilla the best tactic was to march into maximum range then open fire. Now you must consider whether to hold fire, march closer, or duke it out.

Much Larger Regiment Sizes:
What DarthMod also features is more men per unit which ranges all the way upto more cannons per unit to the amount of men in a unit. This feature can give you a sense of more epic battles with more musketes firing at the enemy and more bodies help make it look more realistic. Also because you have more men in a unit it changes the way you have to maneuver your units to the terrain, you can aswell increase the line or make it deeper with more men giving you more options on the battlefield.

Cavalry Tweaked:
Cavalry in this mod have been tweaked to an extent that they tire more quickly and individually are vastly superior to infantry, but due to overwhelming numbers they are usually quickly slaughtered in a bayonet vs saber fight. Furthermore their impact is reduced, due to a combination of numbers, slower speeds and more tired horses. This means less deaths in the initial clash.
All these changes are designed to make cavalry charges risky endeavours that need to be executed with care. Cavalry charges - BEFORE IMPACT - affect morale. A wall of horses charging at infantry - particularly engaged infantry's flanks - will badly affect their morale, and often will lead to a rout before the cavalry even arrive. However charging frontally into a stationary wall of bayonets wielded by eager men is suicide! Wait until they have been affected by morale reducing attacks then charge the flanks for an early rout! Do it to multiple regiments to get a mass rout going!

Once the enemy is routed THEN the cavalry get the kill on. Watch them mop up hundreds of men as they flee.

So basically cavalry serve a different purpose in this mod, no longer can you charge at the front of a wall of bayonets and have a chance to overcome you have to use them more wisely or else you can rest assured your cavalry will be retreating the battle from mass amount of deaths.

Melee Times Tweaked:
To quote the creator himself (DARTH VADER):
Yes correct hip and also about the melee improvements I want to note that the most noticeable effect is the penetration which can be achieved (In vanilla all is stonewall). The penetration makes the melees less static and more chaotic, resulting to less predictable results.

So in a few words it has been tweaked so that Melee is alot more interesting than vanilla with soldiers getting stuck in hand to hand combat making it more gritty and warlike.

Diplomatic AI Is Smarter:
Now with Darthmod when you enter negotiations with another faction you can gurantee that they are reasonable in what they desire and what you demand from them, now factions will declare war on for a reason and if it benefits them.

Campaign AI Is Smarter:
With the vastly improved CAI you can expect to see other factions placing armies more strategically and more frequant naval invasions so if you play as Great Britain your Island can be invaded by the French!

Battle AI Is Smarter:
Have you never been beaten by the AI before? Than you have never played DarthMod. DarthMod makes the AI alot more challenging and difficult, not by stat increase bonuses but by making the AI smarter and adapting to the battlefield and placing artillery, cavalry and infantry more smartly.

New Musket Sounds:
New musket sound effects are added to make the game feel more real.
