Overview
Spain is one of the harder factions to play as it completely lacks spearmen in the early (and start of the high) period, excepting spear militia which are at best a sacrificial unit used to protect more important troops that cannot take a charge. This makes Spain quite weak when facing Catholic factions which rely on knights unless of course the Spanish crown buys some mercenary spearmen.
In the late game, Spain lacks heavy armor piercing infantry, which will take its toll on Spanish armies fighting against other catholic factions. However, as most of their troops have light armor and are used to fighting in hot weather, Spain has an advantage when fighting Muslim armies as well as the Aztecs.
Spain also has an effective navy, being able to field grand carracks instead of the normal carracks.
Iberia itself, is contested by 3 factions, and Spain is in the fairly weak position of having a Portuguese province either side of it.
However, there are also great opportunities with nearby rebel provinces, and lots of nearby Muslim armies to fight in order to gain Papal favor.

Infantry
Spanish infantry is at best, average, until the high period, where Spain are one of the few factions that gain access to Sword and Buckler men, as well as Tercio pikemen, who are both effective and Tercio pikemen unique to Spain (Sicily and Portugal have Sword and Buckler men as well however.).
They also have access to dismounted Conquistadors, who are trainable in the new world only, and are well suited to fighting its natives.
If playing with a mod which allows dismounted Knights of Santiago, they are highly effective swordsmen, offering Spain a unit of heavy infantry which is a niche it under performs in.

Cavalry
Spain make use of the average knights available to the other catholic factions, but also gain Jinetes, who can be trained in cities with a bullring.
Jinetes are excellent light cavalry that can protect the main Spanish army from other catholics knights if used correctly (work in pairs, draw off units of knights from the enemies main army with the jinites' javelins, then charge into the rear of the unit, and if necessary, charge with the second unit of the pain, though this tactics will likely get your cavalry killed if the enemy have a good amount of effective missile troops)
Spain is one of two factions that also get Knights of Santiago, who are a match for all other knightly orders.
Spain also gets to use Gendarmes, which are professional heavy cavalry of the late period.

Missile
Spain make use of the average crossbow armed missile units available to all factions, but also used Javelinmen and Almugavars. At a stretch they can also enter melee and give a good account of themselves, however, neither is a match for true melee units.

Spain also uses musketeers, who, although weak in melee, have a long range and are quite effective at neutralising the foot knights used by Spain's neighbors.

Spanish artillery is also of the highest quality, with access to the fearsome Basilisk cannons

Conclusion
Spanish forces give the feel of commanding a light, fast, and flexible army that is well suited to ambushes and skirmishing against heavier catholic knights, however they also posses units that are capable at siege assault, as well as a powerful navy.
Due to their ability to train cavalry in cities, its possible to take all of Iberia and defend it with only 2 castles, making the faction a potential economic powerhouse, especially when considering the relative closeness of Tombuctu and all the riches that province possesses.
Spain are unfortunately a long way from the Holy Land, so any crusades will almost certainly have to travel by sea.

Although they rely on light troops, Spain should in no circumstances be underestimated as an enemy.
Ancient Empires (AE) is independent mod. Some time ago it was created for different versions of RTR (Gold and Platinium). Latest version of AE was designed as separate mod, however it still uses some RTR units. It features a totally new Auxilia system, Roman Military Reform system, and many completely new units. A description can be found here.

Currently it is in Beta, but the v2.0 is in progress and is very nearly done. Future release of Ancient Empires is named Ancient Empires Elysium (AEE) and is quite different than older version. AEE will have many new features, such as new vegetation i.e. trees and shrubs and many, many more...
Sim - noticed you were unblocking IP's and unprotecting some stuff - we had been having a little problem with a couple of vandalism attempts against The Long Road's page - what's correct procedure if that persists? I see Manstein's page is protected so it can only be changed by registered users! that seems a bit odd on that page but might work for TLR if problem recurs but that system doesn't seem very clear to user - if you are registered and go to edit you get Note: This page has been locked so that only registered users can edit it message - but if you aren't registered (or logged in) it just appears totally locked - should that have other explanation to say it can be edited by registered user?

Also what is correct procedure if you get a total spam /porn attempt from an IP? --Makanyane 00:46, 21 May 2007 (CDT)

* It's fine to block IP addresses, but use short block durations to start with, say a day. If it persists, escalate, but never block it for more than maybe a month straight. Many IP addresses are dynamic, and even static IP addresses won't belong to the same person forever.
* You can go ahead and protect pages that are getting vandalized by anonymous users so that they can only be edited by registered users. Again, these protections probably shouldn't be indefinite. By some estimates a majority of Wikipedia's content comes from anonymous users; that's much of the advantage of wikis.
* I'll look into the protection message for semiprotected pages.
* Block spamming IPs for a day or so on the first time, maybe a week on the second and a month on the third. I'll add messages to the block and protect pages to clarify all this, I guess. —Simetrical (talk &bull; contribs) 10:08, 21 May 2007 (CDT)

:Hi, MisticVisions, its fine to have a page charting progress of your mod on the wiki, but its not the best place to get feedback or recruit people. You would probably do better if you made an account on the forum and put your proposal in the M2 Wip Mod threads section. Be warned that people tend to think WWII mods are an unrealistic idea for the TW engine; demonstrating that you have realised some of the obstacles involved already might help avoid anyone being too harsh about your proposal! Good luck anyway :) - EDIT: Sorry just realised you said on other page you were trying this and not forum deliberately, I'm still not sure its likely to work out! Most of the people you've tried contacting on User Talk Pages aren't active modders so you're not likely to get helpful responses that way.....-Makanyane 01:39, 5 March 2008 (CST)

I found huge potential of wikis as a collaborative tool.
More than endless thread forums who are confusing.
Since wikis works by "community shaping", i thought first shaping it in "petit comité",
The project will need an admin from this wiki and people to connect another people.
Also a wiki should store better the knowlege, experimentation and results can be easily used from others.

About WTW project posts
First, you are going to need a experienced 3d modeler, and a person who has a bit of skill at changing destruction physics
, all I could help with on this, IF IT WAS POSSIBLE is research.65.75.191.179 09:19, 5 March 2008 (CST)

The project will need people like you. Neverthenless, in a next step.
Is a cannon elephant a tank?
If we put in the estrategic level that its a tank and in tactical battle its requirements is like a tank, its sound like a tank, sure it is! (inmagination...)
That what i mean with 0.1 versions. Later we will try to change the elephant engine to a real tank.
Research is a common purpose in wiki. All mods should be developed in a wiki way so we will be able to share the knonwlege and potential of what we are doing. (limits, etc...)
So, i will try to shape this project in this way. (In case of failure,... all research is useful!)
The key is a good information system, wiki is and excellent tool.

Mak is right, you will probable have to wait for empire total war. The engine on m2tw isnt designed for battles like you have, and the campaign map wouldnt be big enough.65.75.191.179 09:19, 5 March 2008 (CST)

Probably i will have to wait to the official "world total war"... (joking)
May be there will be some strategic airbattles and battle role-playing.

If you do have to wait for ETW it will be coming out in 4-8 months.65.75.191.179 09:22, 5 March 2008 (CST)
Wiki as a tool to develop tw mods
WTW
Have you decided about how you would want to go about on a mod like this mor ETW? Because I dont think M2TW would work. I could always make the paint textures on cannons look like pak75 artillery guns, but having machine guns and tanks would be another story.S.P.Q.R. Praetorian 22:10, 11 March 2008 (CDT)

Nice. Good new.
I think that the project may go little running version integration progress.
As i described, little steps by little steps always keeping a running version.
And we will se how far this project can go.
All work done here is done for a Etw. (mostly,... i hope)

Anyway, this project will be "posted" in this wiki. This wiki will show all open code, so people will can read it and discussed, and eventually changed.
For non text code, such textures, 3d compiled, etc ... There will be a cvs control and archive from this wiki.
Thats the idea for how to develop it.

Another issue is that this project will create non-project support wikiarticles. I mean, like how to compile that, or those, doubts will come to modders and it is not like a forum you will eventually post the same thing several times, just saying the wiki article is all said.
Another thing is, here the thing are more easy seen.

So this project is an "experiment" in two-sides with a improvement collateral effect.
- The project itself
- The way to developped
New mod project Announcement WorldTotalWar
Hey! I added a new project called WorldTotalWar, is a major modification for MTW2 in the ambientation of WW2. <br>
I used a page of your wiki to public show this Mod. I didnt find better place.<br>
Also, i pretend to organize this mod in a community way, so i thinked better to put in a wiki.
I preview to use TWcenter to community develop this mod. <br>
Take a look to WorldTotalWar and tell me!

Have you decided about how you would want to go about on a mod like this mor ETW? Because I dont think M2TW would work. I could always make the paint textures on cannons look like pak75 artillery guns, but having machine guns and tanks would be another story.[[User:S.P.Q.R. Praetorian|S.P.Q.R. Nice.

--MisticVisions 19:59, 4 March 2008 (CST)

Overview
Roma Surrectum, covering the era from 280BC, is a complete modification for Rome: Total War. It aims to improve both the battle and campaign AI and portray a more realistic view of the ancient world, while remaining an enjoyable and challenging experience.

Features
Factions
The following factions are included in Roma Surrectum:
*Epirus
*Rome- A download for a unit manual can be found here
*Syracusae
*Macedon
*Ptolemaics
*The Seleucid Empire
*Carthage
*Parthia
*Pontus
*Gallic Tribes
*Germanic Tribes
*Armenians
*Getae
*The Greek Cities
*Pergamum
*Sarmatia
*Iberia
*Bosporous

Out of those, Pergamum, The Bosporous, Epirus and Syracusae are completely unique factions.

Map
The map features a larger number of provinces, especially in areas such as the Italian Peninsula, Greece, Syria and Sicily. It has been thoroughly researched and, for the most part, is quite historically accurate.

Other Features
One of the most publicised features of Roma Surrectum was the thirty five historically accurate named and numbered Legions for the Roman faction, based on an Area Of Recruitment(AOR) system, whereby certain legions can only be recruited in specific cities. More information can be found here.

The Rebel faction has been given a massive facelift for Roma Surrectum, and are now essentially many smaller kingdoms that work together with other cities in that region to make expanding harder. Each of the two Free Kingdoms and Tribes factions act like whole nation rather than rebels and will expand, and are much more aggresive. More information on the Free People in Roma Surrectum can be found here.

The date is no longer recorded in the standard B.C. format, but rather in the form Ab Urbe Condita, which means "from the founding of the city".
* Barbarian Weapons Dealer (improved weapons and armor)
* Eastern Gardens (increased trade)
* Military Monuments and Shrines for all factions (happiness bonus)
* The Great Temple of Ba'al for Carthage (happiness bonus due to increase in baby sacrifices)
* The Temple of Jerusalem (happiness bonus and trade increase)
* Legion Monuments (happiness bonus)
* Arches and Columns (happiness bonus)
* Colonnaded Streets (happiness and trade bonuses)
* Suburbs, towns, and cities(reduces population)

* Eastern Gardens (increased trade)
* Military Monuments and Shrines for all factions (happiness bonus)
* The Great Temple of Ba'al for Carthage (happiness bonus due to increase in baby sacrifices)
* The Temple of Jerusalem (happiness bonus and trade increase)
* Legion Monuments (happiness bonus)
* Arches and Columns (happiness bonus)
* Colonnaded Streets (happiness and trade bonuses)
* Suburbs, towns, and cities(reduces population)
* Population Growth Initiative(increases population)

Factions
The following factions are included in Roma Surrectum:
*Epirus
*Rome- Unit Manual can be found at: http://files.filefront.com/Roman+Unit+Manual+15+Finypdf/;9681104;/fileinfo.html
*Syracusae
*Macedon

* Eastern Gardens (increased trade)
* Military Monuments and Shrines for all factions (happiness bonus)
* The Great Temple of Ba'al for Carthage (happiness bonus due to increase in baby sacrifices)
* The Temple of Jerusalem (happiness bonus and trade increase)
* Legion Monuments (happiness bonus)
* Arches and Columns (happiness bonus)
* Colonnaded Streets (happiness and trade bonuses)

Additional features are mentioned in this thread.

Team
The leader of Roma Surrectum is dvk901. A full list of the people that have contributed to the mod can be found here.
The amount of money gained is affected by these factors=
500 Initial cash
500 for any battle won
1000 for any siege won
-750 if you lose a battle
-1500 if you lose a siege
-250 if its a draw
2000 if you exterminate a city
501 extra for the end (can anyone confirm?) .
This is only in affect if Lithuania is still pagan!

Strategy
It is vitally important for The Teutonic Order to unify itself and capture the cities between their two areas. Then capturing a Lithuanian castle is a good strategy. Try and declare an alliance with Poland. After lithunia, taking Novgorod would be a good move because of their power. Destroying the Mongols will also rid you of a serious threat.
The Northern position is considerably less advanced, but has 5 cities. However there is no army for use in this region. They do however have Riga, a relatively advanced city as a exception. This area is in proximity to Denmark, Novgrod , and Lithuania

--MisticVisions 19:59, 4 March 2008 (CST)

I could always make the paint textures on cannons look like pak75 artillery guns, but having machine guns and tanks would be another story.[[User:S.P.Q.R. Praetorian|S.P.Q.R.

:Okay, it seems I've fixed it. You might have to regenerate a couple of PNGs, like by reuploading them or making a change to the page that includes them or something. —Simetrical (talk &bull; contribs) 18:41, 3 September 2007 (CDT)
Bot Query
We seem to be having quite a lot of edits from random looking IP's putting one word of garbage at top of page like: http://www.twcenter.net/w/index.php?title=Prothalamos&curid=2637&diff=11850&oldid=11815
is there anything that could be done about that without inconveniencing normal users? Might hopefully stop but there seem to have been and increasing number recently. -Makanyane 06:35, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
:It looks like it's not bots, it's open proxies. Some kind of automated anonymizer, probably. If it continues to be a problem, we could either 1) start blocking them as they're used, and hope the person eventually runs out or 2) use an external blacklist to do the work for us (but that has some problems, e.g., we can't unblock on request if the third party is wrong). —Simetrical (talk &bull; contribs) 20:52, 29 September 2007 (CDT)
It's started to drive me round bend as its getting hard to pick out what's going on in recent changes, so have starting trying to block them, have by no means got all of them used to date, but am curious if meeting block might help stop it anyway, it still looks more automated than any sort of human edit to me... Will also try taking out any other ones that come up subsequently. Am just putting it on 2 weeks and anon user only block but leaving account creation open. --Makanyane 13:35, 12 October 2007 (CDT)
I have seen this stuff for a year on wikipedia now for a year and I KNOW you were NOT experiment, when you use words like gay. Better not be vandalising more stuff.S.P.Q.R. Praetorian 22:52, 25 January 2008 (CST)

At least top problem seems to have gone away, good. This page is coming on really well (insert thumbsup smilie). Would it work better to break it into a few separate pages though? You could for instance have new page called "The Long Road - Traits and Ancillaries". To contain the detail from that section and a brief summary and link to it on this page. --Makanyane 01:24, 6 June 2007 (CDT)
I think someone's confusing the Aegean (sea in between Greece-Turkey) with the Caspian sea (big landlocked sea beyond the Black Sea)....

Dont worry, Ill watch this page, wikipedia has problems with this **** all the time and it makes me mad to see vandalism.S.P.Q.R. Praetorian 22:49, 25 January 2008 (CST)

Un-needed Pages
Hi Scorch I have already talked this through with Makanyane:
I feel that users creating articles on themselves should not be allowed for the following reasons:

*A User is granted a User Page where they can talk about themselves.

*This is against Wikipedia policy and on Wikipedia proper it is forbidden.

Many users are putting redirects on their user pages to a new article, what I ask you is the point of doing that? And articles like this are a complete joke. I hope you grasp the what I feel is expected of you being Imperator around these parts, delete these nonsense pages. Users will have to make do with their user pages for talking about themselves oh, wait, that's what they are there for. I do not mean to sound harsh. Magnus 16:51, 20 September 2007 (CDT)

::I am willing to help with this Wiki. Thankyou for clearing this up. So can I presume that articles like Boudicca by Perikles will be improved in the near future?
:::EDIT. In your reply you mentioned about being happy to have me on the team. I would be happy to join the team if you thought I was up to the task! Please get back to me on this matter, as i'm very excited about the prospects of working with you. Magnus 05:33, 21 September 2007 (CDT)

::Regards Magnus 03:31, 21 September 2007 (CDT)

:::Here I go again :) Take a look at this for articles regarding users. Basically what it says is that Users are discouraged from creating articles on themselves but other users are free to create them. Would you class twcenter.net/wiki to be encyclopedic or not? If so then I would suggest using this rule sooner rather than later to assure that the situation can be rectified. I would think that if you agree then users would be encouraged to stick with their userpage and let other users create pages on them if they have the popularity, if not then why have they a page to themselves anyway, it creates pages with a NPOV (neutral point of view) Magnus 14:03, 23 September 2007 (CDT)

A wiki
How do you create a wiki? Is it free? What does it entail...? Magnus 06:56, 23 September 2007 (CDT)

If youre talkin about creating a new wiki style page you will need a knowledge of wiki-code,
I been trying to leran the stuff for about 9 months now and Ive learned a good sum.
