There are extensive and easily accessible deposits of clay in this province. This can be fired to produce pottery and tiles. Money spent here will improve production and so help with building construction. 

Craftsmanship of all kinds has always been admired in Japan. Even simple objects were considered worthy of being made with care, and being beautiful. This applied to household items as much as rich silks and valuable swords. The coming of the industrial world meant that these ideas were in danger of being swept away, but there is an echo of the idea that things worth doing or making are worth doing well in "kaizen", or the concept of continuous improvement. Anything and everything is reviewed and changed to make it better by everyone, even on a factory floor or a production line. Craftsmanship is still treasured: even today "living national treasures", the absolute masters of their arts and crafts, are celebrated and supported by the government and people.

==Other Information==
A Level-3 Clay Specialty Building is an absolute must have early on in the Campaign as it will save you lots of money on future construction which is very important as the costs on upgrading your infrastructure will become prohibitively higher the more you progress upwards on building. Another detail that makes the Clay Specialty much more important is that the clan wide bonus it provides will stack, meaning that you can save even more money on construction if you have more than one Province with the Clay Specialty. (Example: Having 2 Potteries/Brickworks will reduce construction costs by 10% across all provinces.)

The +3 modernisation bonus provided by the Brickworks is very useful early on in the campaign but it becomes useless as soon as you max out at Clan Development Level-4.
Also, you will have to upgrade the castle, maintain a garrison, a business chain building, and/or a propaganda chain building in the province just to counteract the -2 happiness caused by the Brickworks.
