| The mod aims to improve the game's balance by changing, weakening or boosting various units and their special abilities. On top of that, a few units have been reskinned. Generally, Grognard Mod attempts to make the game both more historically accurate and more enjoyable for both singleplayer and multiplayer.

| In general the battle gameplay is slowed down, and the morale is drastically rebalanced, and generally units will break with much fewer casualties. This lends itself to much more tactical gameplay.
