Released in 2006 it is still popular with players and modders. The game covers the period 1080 to 1530. Medieval II: Total War: Kingdoms expansion, which includes four Campaigns ( Americas, Britannia, Crusades and Teutonic), run on Medieval II: Total War.

The factions vary with each campaign with a total of 24 factions across the 5 campaigns. The map includes the Iberian peninsula and parts of North Africa and Southern France.
