One possible strategy as Macedon would be to take over the Greeks, then attack the adjacent Romans, before eliminating the Thracians to the north. While fighting the greeks your Phalanx Pikemen will tear them to shreds. They have much longer spears. Longer even than Royal Pikemen. Thermon is the most important city to capture as that is the first place that the Brutii will attack. A good strong garrison is needed as the Brutii won't stop attacking even if you destroy their armies again and again. Solution? Attack the Brutii in Southern Italy and wipe them out. As you will now be at war with all the Roman factions the capture of Capua and then Rome is crucial. Make sure that the Scipii are now either none existent or too weak to be a threat. I recommend non-existence. Leave the Julii for now. By now you should control all of Greece, Southern Italy,Crete and the Balkans area. Thrace should also be destroyed and the capture of Byzantium before they get it is crucial. Make an alliance, build an army in Byzantium and stab them in the back.

===A very famous Macedon online player:===

[[Category:RTW Guides]]
Prince of Macedon is his name and he often plays as Macedon.

Very entertaining videos with a lot of Rome total war videos especially online commentary videos.

If you want to read more about his strategys and maybe learn how to beat him in theory at i recommend that you read on!

Prince of Macedon often plays as Macedon at low money games this keeps the game fair and archers are still effektive unlike high money games.

== His troops selection: ==

Royal pikemen:a hoplite unit that has the same number of troops as falangites 240 men. Royal pikemen are better protected than Silver shields or Bronze shields and Pharaos Guard. A very soldid anvil.

Companion cavalry: Elite horsemen with good armour and a very good charge. These men exell at flank and rear attacks!

with proper flanking companions and not all cav unit selected at 1 enemy unit head on these men can kill anything.

Archers:very cheap they may lack the punch of cretans but they leave more rom for upgrades after all it is the melee that decides the battle.

Great distraction that keeps enemy archers busy while attacking with melee troops.

== Attack is best defence ==

You can see that Prince of Macedon is an aggressive player and this has several advantages:

He can force you to respond to him and not the other way around.

He can attack when he is ready.

The enemy player is more likely to isolate his own cavalry making it easier for Prince of Macedons companions to crash in the enemy cavalry from all sides making them rout and massacre the enemy cav.

== Counter messure ==

How do you counter this exellent tactic?

Maybe you should have more upgrades on your own cavalry and keeping them close to your infantry I suggest attack and experience upgrades.

While only upgrading gold defence for the infantry.

But it really depends on what factions to bring every faction in rome total war has diffrent strengths.

Dont have the infantry units deployed side by side sence that benifits fhalanx units not cohorts.

Launch your own offenssive and if your roman trow pila and then fomr testudo in guard mode and then march rigt tru those spears.

Then the swordfigting skills of the roman infantry can be desisive as long as the cohorts isnt deployed side by side!.

The cav figt is most important use some cohort support and dont forget to micro manage your cav.

History

Macedon was a prosperous region to the north of Greece,who's first recorded king was Perdiccas I. The kings after him continued to establish control of Macedon, until the reign of Philip III. Philip II expanded Macedonian influence into Greece.He planned to invade the Persian Empire,but was assassinated. The task fell to Philip's son Alexander the Great. After retaking Greece, and campaigning against the tribes to the north,Alexander invaded and seized the Persian Empire,as well as parts of India. His empire fell apart after his untimely death. Macedon survived as a kingdom until the reign of King Perseas, who was defeated by the Romans. Alexanders succesors fought for years over his empire, although none managed to match his acheivements, The Ptolemys of Egypt and the Seleucids were among the most famous, they met in battle at Raphia where the Ptolemaic Egyptians succeded

Strategy

Macedon is a challenging faction to play, as plague will soon strike Thessalonica. They usually fight against Thrace, the Greek Cities and later on, the Brutii.
