When all enemy units are killed or routing, the player is victorious. If there is a time limit, the attacker must manage to rout or kill the defenders units before the time runs out or he will lose the battle.

If the attacker can rout all enemy units or hold the centre of the fort for 2 minutes, he wins the battle.

But, Skirmishers are always in a large group where everyone's in spread out, to minimize casualties taken, this being said, Skirmishers are very vulnerable to cavalry, the reason why is because they cannot go into square formation, and infantry, Elite, line, Militia or Skirmishers, are weak against cavalry, unless they have the square formation option, which would make them extremely deadly to cavalry, but Skirmishers don't so they are extremely vulnerable to cavalry charges. They're not as bad when put up against artillery since they're spread out, but still take casualties from artillery.

Line Infantry is the Basic infantry that you would get, they are the units that are who aren't Elite, nor are they as weak as Militia, so they're right in the middle, and they're affordable to recruit. Line infantry are good against other units like cavalry since they can get into square formation, so they would decimate the attacking cavalry by using that tactic, but they are vulnerable to other forms of infantry because the square formations weakness. they're on the other hand, extremely vulnerable to artillery units, because of there tight formations, artillery will just have to hit one spot to inflict a great deal of damage.

Militia are great town watchmen, what this means is if your playing a campaign, and you need one of your provinces will revolt if you move your troops out of the town, militia come as a great option then since they are extremely cheap, and will garrison your province for you while all your experienced troops can move out. there are to other types of militia you have, you have armed citizenry who are automatically added to your army if your province is being attacked and your army isn't at full capacity, depending on how large you Main building in the city is what decides how many armed citizenry units you have, but if you have a full army, then no armed citizenry will be in the battle since there is no spot open. armed citizenry are easier to route then recruited Militia because they have worse range, and even worse morale. the other type of militia you can have is sword units. sword units are only able to be recruited by the Ottoman Empire. they only have swords and have terrible morale, if they were up against an experienced unit of line infantry, then they would lose pretty badly since they have terrible morale. all Militia units cannot use the square formation so they are a huge target from enemy cavalry and it is a much better idea not to use any Militia units in battle since they're pretty useless against anything else then Militia.

Land Battles in Napoleon

There are 3 different unit classes in Napoleon's Land Battles commanded by a General or Captain.
