    Overview

Of all the knights of Europe, the Normans are the most renowned. Their Viking heritage and lust for battle has led many to seek their fortune abroad, especially in Southern Italy. Here two adventurers, Robert and Roger Guiscard have established a formidable kingdom which employs many of their countrymen. The Norman Knight's exceptional ferocity, and heavy armour make him feared on any battlefield.

    Details

Norman knights have a favorable combination of high speed, high power, and moderate building requirements and cost. They move with the speed of mailed knights while having better stamina, fight as well as chivalric knights except on the charge, and have the infrastructure requirements of feudal knights, while being much better.

They move like medium cavalry because they do not have barded horses, making them better at attacking missile cavalry who heavy knights cannot catch. Their speed also really helps them with effective flanking and with stopping troublesome missile troops. Meanwhile, they brawl in melee as well as all but the absolute heaviest cavalry.

This combination makes Norman Knights an extremely useful unit, among the best cavalry in the game and a great boon to Sicily. The fact that they are as good or better than other Knight units that require a Citadel makes them even better. The Norman Knights basically make Chivalric Knights unnecessary, and the Sicilian player should use them for the entire campaign.
