Western European troops fighting for the Byzantine Empire, these experienced and well trained fighters are armed with lances and swords.
Overview
Latinkon is the collective term for western European troops, in the Byzantine army. Despite fluctuating numbers, there are enough of them to warrant the position of Megas Konostabllos being created to oversee them. With their heavy mail and lances, these warriors are highly valued, with the Emperor's daughter Anna Comnena commenting that they were able to charge through the walls of Babylon.
Details
Latinkon are heavy cavalry and are the best heavy cavalry unit available to the Byzantine Empire. They have a devastating charge as well as good melee stats. They are equipped with both a lance and a sword, meaning that they can use their lance to kill on the charge, while reverting to their sword in melee. They are expensive though, and should not be heavily recruited unless one has the adequate finances to do so. In terms of stats, Latinkon are superior to Kataphractoi, the other elite cavalry unit available to the Byzantines. The Kataphractoi do have armour piercing maces and armoured horses though, meaning that in a melee fight, it would be pretty even. Kataphractoi do require a mored advanced stables though, meaning one can recruit Latinkon earlier in the campaign.
