Western European troops fighting for the Byzantine Empire, these experienced fighters are effective even on foot.
Overview
Latinkon is the collective term in Latin for western European troops, mostly mercenaries, in the Byzantine army. Despite fluctuating numbers, there are enough of them to warrant the position of Megas Konostabllos being created to oversee them. Wearing heavy armour these experienced and well trained fighters are armed with swords and are effective even when fighting on foot.
Details
Dismounted Latinkon are an excellent unit with high defensive and attacking stats. Their chain mail offers them protection against missile and non-armour piercing weapons. Despite their initial cost and upkeep, Dismounted Latinkon are worth their money. For people playing as the Byzantines, their is only one unit, which is superior; the Varangian Guard. But don't let the Varangian Guard's stats fool you into not recruiting any Dismounted Latinkon. Dismounted Latinkon are excellent defensive units and so, should be used on the wall in a settlement defence situation. Overall, a fantastic unit, which can stand up to the most elite infantry units.
