Napoleon: Total War has a total of twelve Historical Battles, featured under the label Napoleon's Battles. All of these battles are on of Napoleon's great victories or defeats. In eleven of the battles, the player controls Napoleon, while the twelfth battle features Waterloo from the British side.

Battle of Lodi

Established around the river Po, the town of Lodi with its stone bridge and local fords sits perfectly in the rolling hills of the Italian countryside. The Battle of Lodi (10 May, 1796) although not a decisive meeting, this was where Napoleon first made a name for himself and got a glimpse of his destiny. The nickname "the little corporal" remained with him throughout his early campaigns against Austria.

Battle of Arcole

Located along the Alpone river, the town of Arcole with its strategic bridge nestles in sprawling Italian farmland with treacherous marshes running along its river banks. The Battle of Arcole (15-17 November, 1796) during which Napoleon successfully outflanked the Austrian army and carried the Tricolour across the Alpone river in person. By seizing the bridge the French prevented the escape of the Austrians, and therefore their planned relief of the siege at Mantua.

Battle of the Pyramids

Almost in the shadow of the Great Pyramids of Giza, the ever-changing Egyptian desert encroaches on the fertile banks of the Nile. The Battle of the Pyramids (21 July, 1798) where Napoleon deployed his lethal divisional squares in the shadow of the Great Pyramids at Giza, defeating a fearless Mameluke cavalry force.

Battle of the Nile

Close to Alexandria on Egypt's Mediterranean coast, the Bay of Aboukir has many treacherous shoals and reefs beneath its waters. The Battle of the Nile or Aboukir Bay (August 1-2, 1798) enabled the British Navy to take the upper hand in the Mediterranean, destroying the French fleet and stranding Napoleon and his army in Egypt.

Battle of Austerlitz

Dominated by the vast surrounding hills, the Goldbach Stream flows through the villages of Kobelnitz, Sokolnitz, and Telnitz. With the focal point of the battlefield being the Pratzen Heights, a vast, gently sloping hill. The Battle of Austerlitz (3 December, 1805) in which Napoleon masterminded his greatest ever victory by defeating the combined armies of Austria and Russia on the vast Pratzen Heights.

Battle of Trafalgar

The waters off of the southern coast of Spain near Cadiz, offer the perfect setting for a naval encounter. The Battle of Trafalgar (21 October 1805) forever confirmed Britain's naval supremacy, leaving the Franco-Spanish fleet, Villeneuve's career and Napoleon's invasion plans in tatters off the coast of Spain.

Battle of Friedland

Southeast of Königsberg, the bends of the Alle river meander past the Sortlack Woods and the villages of Posthenen and Friedland. The Battle of Friedland (14 June, 1807) with Napoleon's empire at its height, he took a chance and defeated Russia in detail, knocking them out of the war and bringing the Fourth Coalition to an end.

Battle of Borodino

The Battle of Borodino (7 September, 1812) saw Napoleon force a close defeat upon the determined Russian defenders. Borodino would be the bloodiest battle of the Russian campaign for both sides, paving the way for Napoleon's subsequent march on Moscow. Deep within the borders of Russia the Bagration's flèches are a series of disconnected earthworks which run in an arc from the Moskva River and its tributaries all the way to the imposing Raevsky redoubt near the town of Borodino.

Siege of Dresden

Situated within the Dresden Elbe Valle and along the river Elbe, stands the poorly fortified town of Dresden and its Royal gardens. The Battle of Dresden (26-27 August, 1813) during which Napoleon reversed the predicted outcome by arriving with reinforcements to bolster the city's defences. The Sixth Coalition were taken by surprise, resulting in the infliction of a heavy defeat upon them.

Battle of Ligny

Surrounded by fields, the small village of Ligny is located on the watershed between the Scheldt and Meuse rivers. The windmills of Brye and Naveau offer a suitable vantage point of the battlefield. The Battle of Ligny (16th June, 1815) effectively determined the outcome of Napoleon's 100 day return to power. Although victory was achieved here Blucher was allowed to escape, something which very soon proved to be a fatal mistake.

Battle of Waterloo
