  • Overview

Levy Spearmen are common folk from villages and towns that have been levied into the army. Armed with long spears and shields these troops are useful at defending flanks, but won’t stand up in any prolonged melee.

    Details

Levy Spearmen are a staple infantry unit in early English armies. They have a large attack bonus against cavalry and can form a flank-proof schiltrom formation if needed, which works best in defensive situations where it can remain immobile, but the formation still leaves soldiers susceptible to missiles. Overall though, Levy Spearmen aren’t much better statistically than the militias offered in towns of the same size, but they’re also not much more expensive than them either.
