Colonialism 1600AD is a work in progress mod for Empire Total War. It change a gameplay aspects into The 17th Century. History

Colonialism 1600AD was first developed by husserlTW and the team, the mod made an announcement and was opened for recruit on 28 April 2011 after husserl's left modding to join DARTH VADER in developing Ultimate General: Gettysburg.

The project was take over by Geronimo2006, a member of the original team and a beta was released in 2014 and on the same year it has became a member of Ex Unitae Vires, which describe itself as the company for Mods and Indie Video Games.

the latest released is Colonialism 1600AD V4.0 Beta, which was released on 26 March 2018. In 2016 it won the 3rd place in Modding Award for the subcategory "Compilation and Overhaul Mods"

Currently the team is working on the late era submod "the Nine Years War" since August 2018.

Features

  • Loading times are adjusted to the slower matchlock and arquebus loading times (1-2 minutes to load). The standard flintlocks of ETW are available for late units to a lesser or greater degree depending on faction. For example in Spain the flintlock seems to have been used less than other major powers because of Spanish traditionalism as well as cost.
  • The availability of armoured units which however are more expensive. In the colonies armoured musketmen are available - reflecting sources including Osprey showing them as late as 1640 in the English colonies. Other sources confirm the French Canadian use of burgonet helmets and cuirasses (breastplates) in conjunction with firearms.
  • A small number of sword and buckler men and halberdiers can be recruited in Europe reflecting their marginal but persistent role there in the first half of the century. In the colonies they were more useful against Indians without firearms however.
