User:Makanyane/imported policy

Reason for proposal

I'd like to get presumption that you don't copy anything of anybodies into wiki except under special circumstances - I think it will make life easier in long run. Whatever forum rules say if large bits of peoples posts start turning up looking like someone else wrote them (due to other name in history page) we could annoy people.

Also having a general "only submit what you wrote yourself" would be clearer than the present text. It was pointed out to me that no-one looks at the project:copyrights link as they think copyright only applies to stuff with a big 'Copyright' sign over it and that content on web is "public domain".

Proposal

Imported template: see far right - can't get it in correct position!

This article consists of a post moved from:
Original Article: {{{link location}}}+
Original Author: {{{Name}}}
Imported content - editing restricted see policy.

Permitted template:

Initial content for this article was based on: {{{link location}}}
Posted here with the permission of the original author: {{{Name}}}
Subsequent amendments are welcome but are not the responsibility of the original author.++

+ link location may have to be listed as unavailable for some old content being moved off forum.

++ I added the not responsibility of original author bit on request of someone who gave permission for complex tutorials to be imported and prefers it to be clear he isn't responsible for amendments, which seems reasonable as a general policy too...

Policy Page

The policy page that the imported template links to should say something like:

Posts on the Total War center forums are submitted on basis that staff "reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason." Staff may decide to move posts onto the wiki if they are of particular importance (eg. Scriptorium articles) or for other organisational purposes.

Posts moved to the Wiki without specific consent from the author to allow inclusion with general content should be placed in the TWC: namespace and have the Imported Template attached. Articles with the imported template may be open for editing but edits should be restricted to improving wiki formatting, fixing typos or adding / amending links. Changes to the content, scope or meaning of these articles should not generally be made except by original author or on his/her request.

If an author requests that particular pieces should not be moved onto Wiki, that they should be removed or subject to certain conditions his/her wishes should be respected.

Imported posts such as opinion pieces and articles unrelated to Total War or history subjects should remain in the TWC: space. If it is felt that a post or tutorial would be useful and relevant in the main space (eg for TW tutorials) the authors consent should be sought to the fact that the article would be subject to 'merciless editing' and more general intergration with other content. If consent is given the article should be included in the main space and use the Permitted template.

All Wiki contributors can, and are encouraged to, ask other members permission to copy in relevant content with permission given for further editing.

Note: TWC information posts compiled over time by twc staff members are not regarded as having an indivdual author and may be included in general wiki content without restriction.

apologies if that's illegible - internet cafe's are useless... Ughh
