Description

300 Warlords of Sparta is a modification for Rome Total War: Alexander. It takes place in Greece and a portion of Asia Minor during the second Persian invasion of Greece, in 480 BC. It aims to re-create the Greco-Persian Wars through the inclusion of 2 distinct campaigns; The "300 'Warlords edition'" based on and influenced by the "300" movie and the "300 'Classic edition'" which introduces loads of new units in accordance with the time period, though that is not to say that historical accuracy has always been pursued.

History

'300' Warlords of Sparta has been voted as the favorite pre-Roman mod of 2009. I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank all who contributed to the mod and put up with my demands for that little bit extra that makes, in my view, WoS one of the best mods ever to grace the RTW platform. Congrats to all.

Features

Factions

The mod contains brand-new, fully retextured and re-modeled factions. The Greek Cities faction and the Persian faction are playable. A third, rebel faction is also included.

Scripted Historical Battles

A number of scripted historical battles are included in the Mod. For example, after the Battle of Thermopylae is over and some time spent in consolidating your alliances has passed, you will be automatically thrust in the Battle of Plataea. The result of such battles will have direct consequences over the course of your campaign.

Scripted Oracle Missions

Various scripted missions have been introduced to the modification. Much like the way missions in MTW2 work, The Oracle's missions are mostly centered around liberating provinces which are under Persian occupation. There are considerable rewards to be earned upon each mission's success.

Liberation Option Upon Conquering A Settlement

The Spartans on capturing a Greek region can "Liberate" the population by occupying the city and providing their benevolent form of government, or opt to "Disperse Liberated Population" among their other provinces. The Spartans may not "Exterminate" sympathetic Greek populations, however that option is still available if they capture a non-greek (Persian or Barbarian) region.

Unique Characters

Unique, historically accurate generals such as Pausanias are included in the mod, each complete with his own icon, backstory and traits.

Buildings

Two new buildings for the Spartans have been implemented. The Krypteria, the Spartan secret police, conferring Public order bonuses due to law, and the House Of Gerusia; the Spartan Elder council, having a similar effect.

Antartes Hoplitai

Antartes Hoplitai: An occupied land does not always equal a defeated people. As you progress, and the distance to your heartlands expands, getting good quality units to the front will become harder and more time consuming. In order to balance this we have included the 'Antartes Hoplitai', men who have hidden in the hills of Persian-held territory and are only to eager to take up arms and fight for a free Hellas. These men are scripted to join your cause as you liberate their regions. However, their numbers are heavily restricted and you will not be able to replenish these units via recruitment. So use them wisely.

300 "Warlords Edition"

The Warlords Edition is based on and influenced by the movie '300'. From this day it is up to you to guide the 'Warlords of Sparta', plot the defence of 'Hellas' and reap revenge for the death of your king.

300 "Classic Edition"

I won't say 'historically accurate' as that's something far too contentious for me to spend time on. These units, while still bearing a little of my own interpretation, are far more in accordance with the period. Disclaimer: I had to make concessions with these units since they're based off the warlords 'DMB', this is to explain any weapon discrepancies. Please forward your any complaints to the 300WoS complaints dept..
