    Overview

Among the doughty folk of the Spanish hills the Bull Warriors are men whose bravery, stamina and skill is unmatched. These elite fighters are shock troops who disregard all danger when cutting their enemies to pieces. Carrying only a sword and shield they do not look much of a threat, a mistaken assessment that enemies rarely get to make twice! This is particularly true of they manage to ambush enemy forces. They fear no men and their over-eagerness to join a battle can be problematic, but like all foot soldiers, they need to be wary of cavalry.

Bull Warriors derive their name from the distinctive horned helmets which they wear.

    Details

Bull Warriors are the strongest unit that Spain has, and one of their few strengths as a faction. They are very good quality troops that are difficult to obtain, and generally aren’t early-game troops. For one, only the largest Spanish cities with a Sacred Circle of Esus can recruit Bull Warriors. Coming from a Temple makes retraining them a lot more difficult, since enemy cities will almost never have the correct building, unlike a Barracks. These troops also have a huge recruitment cost and two-turn recruitment wait, as opposed to the more common single turn, although their upkeep is very reasonable at 200 denarii.

Bull Warriors are similar in how they are used to Scutarii from the Hall of Heroes. Both units use pila and swords in combat, similar to Roman infantry. However the Bull Warriors have a considerably higher attack, another hitpoint, and triple the morale. making them far superior troops. They can defeat Legionary Cohort and fight toe to toe with Praetorians. Because of their extra hitpoint, experience essentially effects their defense twice as much as it effects other troops. For this reason when fully upgraded they will even defeat a fully upgraded Urban Cohort, though when neither are upgraded the Bull Warriors will be soundly defeated.

Bull Warriors should be the Infantry battleline and can be used similarly to Legionaries, except that they are much more vulnerable to arrow fire, since they have light armour. They also make great flanking troops. They have to be wary of heavy cavalry as well, but lighter cavalry will be fought off without trouble.

They are an excellent unit in a Spanish Campaign, being the only infantry that can hope to stand against Post-Marian legions, but in multiplayer they are too expensive to be cost effective. For example they are a lot more expensive even than Urban Cohort even though the Urban Cohort will beat them.
