Description
There is much to learn before battle.
A cadet school allows the recruitment of modern units in a province. Training to be an officer takes a long time, and the best officers, the most dedicated professionals, are those who are trained from an early age to consider the army's interests before their own.
As part of the efforts to modernise and professionalise armed forces, it was recognised in most countries that it made sense to teach young men the rudiments of military wisdom. As new guns and rifles arrived on the battlefield this became even more of an issue. In many countries officers had been trained by a sort of apprentice system, joining regiments directly as ensigns, cornets or junior lieutenants. While this was undoubtedly good for fostering strong bonds with their new units, it also meant that young officers also learned all the bad habits and prejudices of their senior colleagues. Only the seriously technical branches such as artillery and engineers avoided such problems by requiring officers to be educated.

Cadet Schools are the first modern military building. They can recruit Line Infantry and Sabre Cavalry. At the beginning of a Campaign, constructing a Cadet School should be considered because Line Infantry are far, far more useful on the battlefield than Levy Infantry. Line Infantry are still not the best Infantry, but they perform respectably and can always have a place in an army. Sabre Cavalry are a little less useful, they have decent stats but are very expensive and slow and don't have the best charge.
Build your Cadet Schools (as well as Artillery buildings) in a region with the Smith Chain if possible. That building can provide excellent bonuses to your troops.
Cadet Schools increase your Modernization by 1, which helps Clan Development, but also increase unhappiness due to Modernization by 1. Cadet schools also provide the settlement a free garrison unit of Line Infantry when besieged by an enemy. If you already have a lot of money and you regions with all the economic buildings and extra building slots, you might want to build a Cadet School just for this bonus.
