It is worth noting that his interest in Total War is often matched by his investment in other games as old or older than the Total War series; in fact, for the 'three big ones', Total War is the newest. However, his participation in fansites has always been sporadic at best, making TWC his largest fansite presence. His interest in TWC has consequentially resulted in a resurgence in Medieval 2 after a few months of inactivity in the game. Over the years he has played it on and off, but still consistently enough that he could be a rich man if he'd only use the hours he has on M2 for something that makes him money.

Citizen

Forum Profile:Here

For his page as a Wiki editor and his projects, see User:CommodusIV CommodusIV is a user currently in the process of Citizenship. A relatively new registration for a community of oldguard, he has made occasional marks in the community from time to time, though has been on and off in activity since the beginning. He is best marked by his participation in [The Isles of Chaos] Hotseat Campaign, occasional appearances in user-accessible administrative forums with ideas and commentary, his sweeping projects on the Wiki, and occasional dropping into various sections. Today he is most active in the aforementioned hotseat, on the wiki, and in the 'meta' sections of the forum, and holds aspirations regarding the Youtube Channel and the Discord Server.

About

CommodusIV registered in 2017 after lurking for years before, never committing to an account or desire to participate. After years of on and off participation and multiple accounts simply lost for lack of upkeep and recollection, he was convinced to join and commit to the hotseat community by Jadli on the eve of the crisis in the section. Being too established from his administrative role in the Steam Community he was drawn from yet lacking the skills to contend with the regulars, he found himself perpetually struggling to reconcile with the more competitive nature of the section on TWC. Most hotseats he joined were lost on his part quickly, turned over from lack of investment and later dropped due to being different from what he was expecting. One example for the former was a Game of Thrones hotseat as House Lannister, taking over a faction one turn before several full stacks appeared and his faction's fate was soon guided by the powerful alliance on his northern borders. In other words, he's not a very good hotseater. Other examples are a roleplay hotseat he felt lacked in the roleplaying aspect too much and his sole game admin position where he assumed he would be a support Co-Admin and found he was to be the main Admin, something he attempted and ultimately failed handle well, leaving the hotseat in the hands of another far more adept admin at the time, Belthasar Bolton. Today, he knows his limits and avoids regular hotseats and admin positions, only open to specific roleplay hotseat concepts that meet his somewhat archaic standards.

In the midst of his hotseating stint he properly explored other sections, becoming a regular reader of the DD forums and the Curia, occasionally checking into the Medieval 2 game board, and most prominently having a small burst of activity in the Writing Center, the source of half his fledgling friends list. Though he had ambitions and pursued designs for an AAR based on his Medieval 2 playstyle, his ideas fell through and his contributions were ultimately limited to a few weeks participation in Tale of the Week, where he in fact won a few times before slowly dipping back out of the section. In the midst of reading the Curia in particular, his thoughts on that institution and the site in general began to take more definitive form.

The Hotseat Crisis

Perhaps the largest drama CommodusIV has been directly involved in on the forum, the Hotseating Crisis is a matter still largely under wraps, and was an unexplored opportunity. Being recruited by Jadli, he was by proxy brought into the exodus of users that splintered and made a new forum in light of severe disagreement with site staff in the section. However, he was not always appreciated for his tendency to sit closer to the middle of the issue than expected with his origins and participation, with his public posts today often able to be interpreted as light defense for the staff at the time even as he had his own issues with their conduct. He is disappointed in himself for not taking a more active role in the events given his unique position in the crisis; alas, times have moved on, and subsequent to the crisis his activity in the section was by and large reduced further (aside from occasional stints with predictable ends, per above).

He has contact with both sides of the dispute today and is not entirely finished with researching the background of the situation to better understand the circumstances, as the issue was hugely marked by an inability of the Staff (now completely changed) to provide evidence that may have been critical for the perceptions of users who did not have elevated vision of the circumstances.

Tenure in Staff, Commentaries & Inactivity

As his attachment to the Hotseating section diminished, his participation in other sections gradually grew, occasionally dwindling, occasionally taking higher prominence. He became enamored with the idea of 'reviving' the site and 'bringing a new Golden Age'. New as he was despite having lurked for some time, and lacking in much context he has acquired since, he began to stretch for ways to realize this idea. Four things became his projects, with their timelines unique until otherwise noted.

He developed an interest in the wiki, due to having worked on others in the past and seeing similar situations. However, his greatest flaw was a lack of scope; he simply desired to add and overhaul, and had little in the way of solid ideas beyond a crude implementation of 'Top-Down Overhaul' in the belief that the wiki would benefit best if the game pages were reworked and standardized. Having bit off more than he could chew, he made various efforts and even joined the Wiki Team for a short time before his motivation crumbled and his resignation was offered. This would not be the end, as he would later participate in Ged's very temporary burst of activity on the site to assist with skinning on the wiki and minor details related to that using his mild background in web work.

He saw the Scriptorium as an opportunity more to try something new with two main goals; revival and archiving, as many of the articles were and are to this day plagued by issues of the files and images that have been lost over time. The former he never made real headway on, and the latter lacked both support and motivation to pull off. Feeling alone in the effort and intersecting with larger motivation issues and troubles in life, his resignation from the Scriptorium Team was offered alongside resigning from the Wiki.

He has expressed interest in joining Modding Staff twice, both times arriving too late as the perpetual bounce of reins between administrators happened before settling. By the time they did, he had become disillusioned with the section seemed to take and the process of approaching multiple times, and so his tenure had never started despite being perhaps the one he was most interested in at the time.

Finally, he was a fairly active user in the Curial Commentary Thread for a while and would make various comments in response to curial activities and for larger scale discussions on things in the site. When the Proth was opened to general membership, he took place in many of the votes to follow. He had a not entirely fair streak of popularity from opposing a stream of proposals point by point, mainly boiling down to their ineffective nature and how they did not properly achieve the ends they were supposed to meet. This impression dwindled when he took a more aggressive stance reflecting his pessimism with various operations and his thoughts in general, eroding much of his goodwill from this around the time of a forming citizenship application. Said application was dropped by his request, as his pessimism largely overcame his drive and other projects in his life took priority.

Revival

In 2020 his activity has respawned, taking new shape with Wiki initiatives, a new set of ideas attempting to properly grasp at the scope of the site that had eluded him for years, and rejoining the hotseat he had founded after finding a fix to a long-drawn issue that had made him unable to play for a substantial chunk of the game. His citizenship, a controversially assembled, pessimistically self-conscious application redeemed only by the Curia's will to dig up his old & few true contributions, is currently pending.

If he makes something of himself remains to be seen. He could post part 2 of his blog if nothing else and make use of a feature that, like various things, he had many ideas for that were never founded.

Games Owned

All of them save for Arena (RIP), Three Kingdoms, Rome on mobile and other such odd offshoots. Otherwise, Shogun 1 up to the latest Warhammer is in his collection. Essentially, all main entries to the series save for 3K.

His overwhelming interest, however, lies in Medieval 2, with older entries and Rome 2 coming as distant seconds, and the rest of the series only long enough to get an impression. Noteworthy sub 100 hour stint in Warhammer to give it a try.
