Description
The smith forges many destinies, not just his own.
There are specialist blacksmiths in this province. With the right investment they can specialise in weapons, improving the traditional equipment of the samurai, or creating Japanese versions of modern, foreign weapons. In either case, the troops recruited here will benefit from their efforts.
The skills that made Japanese swords were not always easy to apply to the new machines that openness with the West brought. However, Japanese craftsmen did learn quickly and were soon making "native" modern weapons as good as anything from outside, if not in quite the same quantities.
Other Information
When you're presented with the choice of picking the Gunsmith or Armourer as the next upgrade, consider the undeniable fact that swords and armour have ultimately given way to rifles and cannons. Picking the Armourer is a huge waste as +4 armor is simply too insignificant to improve a unit's survival against massed volleys of rifle fire. Another detail that makes the Gunsmith the far superior option is that Modern Cavalry and Artillery Units will also benefit from the Accuracy Bonus, making them much more lethal in their battlefield roles. Strangely enough, even the Traditional Ranged Units such as the Matchlock Kachi, Bow Kachi, Bow Ki, and Samurai Hero will benefit from the Accuracy Bonus.
However, the combination of the Jujutsu Hall and the Armourer is excellent for churning out melee units that are both durable and hard-hitting.
