Overview

The 1.2 upgrade patch for Medieval II: Total War was released on 4th May 2007.

This patch should be installed over a clean version of the original game, not over an installation already patched to v1.1, or with any other modification made to it. You may need to un-install and re-install the game before applying the patch if you have made any alterations to it.

Fixes

The most important fixes concerned battle map behaviour, and reduction of problems previously experiences with a passive AI. Some CTD causes where also resolved.

Bugs

Some problems are still reported with the game after patching, these are being compiled at:

The Unofficial Patch

An unofficial version of the patch was circulating in the community for a while. This patch 'escaped' due to CA sending the download to various mirror sites before the official release time. They subsequently discovered some bugs where not resolved at that stage and decided to cancel the release of the patch, a few of the sites that had been sent the preliminary patch released it anyway - hence the 'unofficial' version.

If you used that version it is recommended that you re-install and use the official patch.

Largest Patch in History?

When this patch was released there were questions about whether it is the largest game patch ever released. Weighing in at an incredible 650MB the size of the download did cause some consternation amongst the TW community.

As well as various bug fixes and improvements a new Battle Editor and a Cinematic Editor were added to the game.
