As stated above, The Complete Byzantine Unit Roster Project aims to bring the player new, authentic and historically accurate troops to Medieval 2: Total War. The player has the option to download three different Byzantine unit rosters (see above). On top of that, the mod was designed so that players can use CBUR with other mods as well, even their own (With permission of course). To keep things simple and up-to date, CBUR is already included in various hosted Medieval 2: Total War modifications (Kingdoms modifications), which can be found below. Creative Assembly's Byzantine units were historically inaccurate, dull and not well presented in the vanilla version of Medieval 2: Total War. Now, thanks to the modding team, CBUR brings a new level of immersion, history and historical accuracy to the Byzantine campaign and army.

The Complete Byzantine Unit Roster Project (CBUR) is a mod, which aims to add authentic, historically accurate Byzantine units to Medieval 2: Total War.

History

At first, the project started out as a part of the Dominion of the Sword mod, but soon became a standalone mod for Medieval 2: Total War. There are three unit roster projects for CBUR, as seen below, going from the oldest to the most recent project:

  • The armies from 700 AD to 900 AD
  • The armies from 900 AD to 1079 AD
  • The armies from 1080 AD to 1453 AD (Most Recent Project)

Description

Features

These three Byzantine unit rosters focus on three different and unique time frames in Byzantine history. Each unit roster is different and historically accurate to the corresponding time frame. The differences in the unit roster simulate the changes that the Byzantine Army went through, throughout their history (in this case from 700 AD to 1500 AD). CBUR features the Byzantine units from 700 AD to 900 AD, from 900 AD to 1079 AD (a.k.a. Nikephorean Armies) and from 1080 AD to 1453 AD (a.k.a. Komnenean Armies). CBUR does not work with the vanilla (default) version of Medieval 2: Total War. On the other hand, CBUR was designed, so that it is already integrated into some well-known Medieval 2: Total War mods, including:

A ton of newly skinned, modeled and accurately presented units, including:

  • Scoutati
  • Varangian Guard
  • Aristocratae
  • Cavalarii
  • Trapezitae
  • Contarati
  • Menaulati
  • Peltastae
  • Toxotae
  • Acontistae
  • Gasmuli
  • Acritae
  • Mourtati
  • Stratiotae
  • Latinikon
  • Alamani
  • And a ton of more!
