Casus Belli, often abreviated to CB, is an Italian mod for Rome: Total War.
Contents
History
Originally created and developed by an Italian team called the Alaudae Team, the Rome Casus Belli project was paused at the beta version 1.0.0 (subsequently updated to 1.1.0. with a patch). Casus Belli got its own hosted mod forum in early 2007. Modred, who was the Alaudae Team's leader, created a new edition in 2009, called Rome Casus Belli Classic Game. Then, in 2010, Iulianus Apostata began another new mod project, called Rome Casus Belli Gold.
In late 2012, the Casus Belli Mod Team released his latest edition, version 1.8.0.
Description
Casus Belli is a mod exclusively made by Italians and the mod itself is made in Italian. It includes reskins for units of all factions, which are sometimes completely changed, and adds numerous historical scripts to the game. The mod is set in the time of the Roman Republic and the High Roman Empire.
Features
Factions
All Rome: Total War factions are used, but all are renamed. This is the Casus Belli faction list:
Roman Factions
The Roman factions are the Res Publica Populi Romani and the Roman rebels.
Barbarians
Among the barbarian factions are the Britons, the Dacians, the Gauls, the Germans, the Celtiberians, the Sarmatians and the Scythians.
Hellenic Factions
The Hellenic or Hellenistic factions are the Achaean League, the Kingdom of Macedonia, the Ptolemaic Kingdom, the Seleucid Empire and the Thracians.
Eastern Factions
The eastern factions are the Kingdom of Armenia, the Kingdom of Pontus and the Parthian Empire.
African Factions
The african factions are the Republic of Carthage, the Kingdom of Numidia and the Kingdom of Garamantes.
Scripts
Casus Belli includes a lot of changes regarding scripts, namely:
- Historically accurate scripts: Casus Belli contains several scripts focusing on historical events.
- Three military Roman reforms: In order to be more historically acurate, Casus Belli introduces three additional military reforms for the Roman factions. These military reforms give the player access to new units for the Romans.
- 4 turn per year script: this tweak prolongs the amount of turns that can be played in a single campaign (this will be removed in a subsequent patch).
- A new AOR script: units can only be recruited in certain regions, like elephants could only be recruited in a small amount of regions in Rome: Total War.
Units
- Casus Belli adds a lot of new historically accurate units to the game.
- The remaining units are reskinned. This was done to add more to historical accuracy.
Miscellaneous
- With new units, a new timeline and somewhat different factions, new historical battles were a logical addition to the mod. Casus Belli contains several new historical battles.
- Like new units, new buildings have also been included in Casus Belli, either to be able to create the new units, or for gameplay purposes.
- The current version of Casus Belli, version 1.8.0, is only available in Italian.
