Overview
This is a project I have had in mind for some time, and is related to my other Archiving effort.
Currently the scope of this is to divide between two types of mods. Dead and downloadable/living. Dead mod forums are to be sidelined (not necessarily deleted). This is to give breathing room in the index to projects which still have downloads, have known saves in case the downloads are down (currently something I have a copy of, obviously we'll want to do better than that long term), and which are at least in development or can be contacted if they are WIPs without a download.
At this time this is only for hosted mods. The best I can do for any other mod such as those in various released mod subfora is to mark them as 'no download' or something, and that is a can of worms I am not prepared to open unless someone points me directly to such a mod to flag on the spot.
Current reviews by section
Medieval II Total War
This is the game I have most attachment to and is also one of the most gnarly sections to process, so I'm looking at it head on. Current work is in a notepad doc, I'll leave a report when it's done. I'm optimistic for most sections in med 2 kingdoms but I can tell you now that only four subforums for the vanilla med 2 section are operable. Four of them appear to be gone for good, hosted mods which have not had downloads in many years despite multiple people looking into them.
Other Games
The only major section here is Mount&Blade, which hasn't been lively in a long time.
Mount&Blade Hosted Mods
These mods have generally survived through Nexus or ModDB. I went through them a while back and ensured available mods could still be reached through TWC, as most existing links were dead. I still need to guarantee personal copies for each mod and complete this section.
- 1257 AD: Available (stale, third party)
- Cursus Honorum: Available (stale, third party)
- Finland At WW2: Unavailable. Not even moddb where there are comments reporting it has been gone a long time.
- Imperium Graecorum (IG) (WB): Available (stale, third party)
- Peloponnesian War: Available (stale, third party)
- Prophesy of Pendor: check
- Secession: check
- Vikingr: check
What about the rest?
Headers are to be added when checks are started. I'll probably do something smaller concurrent with checks of something larger, avoiding super gnarly sections such as Rome until the current large section (medieval 2 currently) is complete.
TWC Downloads
This is not for downloads hosted on TWC servers. Rather this is for mods that link to an external site which has since vanished. What to do with them? Right now the idea is to simply flag them as defunct. Hex is mulling over adjustments to this area so updates are TBD.
Other thoughts
Anyone willing to help out with this is free to reach out including to append suggestions to this page, to make a thread in the Q&S, or to otherwise reach out through TWC or discord. Otherwise I'll reach out intermittently, ie, to people I think may be able to offer something so a section that might otherwise be 'dead' can be saved from that fate.
