Hardy folk from the forests of North Eastern Europe, armed with a large axe.
Overview
Woodsmen are a hardy folk from the forests of North Eastern Europe. These are tough men, accustomed to lives of hard work in an unforgiving environment. They band together with likeminded fellow woodsmen to protect their homes and people in times of need. Armed with their tools of the trade, a large axe, they can hew down other light infantry, and inflict considerable damage on heavier foes. Especially dangerous ambushing in their native forests.
Details
Woodsmen are built around the idea of inflicting high casualties. They have a very high attack and a very low defense. Woodsmen are literally defenseless against missiles and practically defenseless against cavalry charges, which leaves them made for fighting other infantry. Their high attack allows them to kill lots of light infantry, and their armor piercing allows them to fight reasonably well against armored infantry as well. Most attacks Woodsmen to engage will cost many of them their lives because their defense is so low, to the point that they often require the support of more armored units. Fortunately, Woodsmen are cheap enough to be recruited and used in large numbers.
