It is centered around the Middle Eastern warfare during the period between 1174 and 1400 AD.

'''Broken Crescent''' is the first Total Conversion modification for Medieval 2: Total War, focusing on the Middle-East and its warfare between they years AD 1174-1400.  Unfortunately its release date was pushed back from the 28th of September to allow two brand new factions, Imamat of Oman, and the Malikate of Sindh and Strelac's Byzantine units replace the purple horrors that where the vanilla Byzantines. Strelac also made a brand new formation for Byzantine pikes. It was released officially on the 13th of January at the Total War Centre forums.

=== All new ===

Travel anywhere from the Middle East to India in search of becoming the greatest ruler and general the world has to offer. Books of great knowledge were written throughout these parts, and can now be acquired as ancillaries. People of certain regions were better at certain activities; have them follow you and aid you in governance and warfare. Perhaps your men take to the exotic lands where they have traveled, and become very much like their foreign counterparts due to all the Vices and Virtues available?

The mod includes many new traits as well as ancillaries for each new culture and religion to further immerse the player into the world at war.

=== New Buildings ===

Broken Crescent freatures several new buildings, Including one that signifies Papal support for the kingdom of jerusalem to initiate a crusade, several trading increasing Ocean-trade buildings and the silk road.

=== Area of Recruitment ===
+
Hindu Factions:
Broken Crescent will feature a special Area of Recruitment system. Each faction will only have ''home regions'', where it can recruit its units. In the regions it conquers, it will only be able to recruit local levies and special units. For example, the Hindu Rajput States will be able to recruit unique elephant units in India, but conquering factions will only be able to recruit ordinary elephant troops.
+
*The Chauhan Rajputs
 +
*The Paramara Rajputs

=== New Religions ===

+
*The Kypchak Confederacy

The Abbasids will begin the game with their leader as the great Caliph. This title will be hereditary; but if another faction leader defeats the Caliph in battle, he will gain the glorious title.

=== The Campaign map ===

In the 3.0 version, the following factions make an appearance
Broken Crescent features a brand new campaign map spanning from Anatolia and Egypt in the West, through Mesopotamia, Persia, and Afghanistan, all the way to India to the East.

Area of Recruitment

Broken Crescent features an Area of Recruitment system. Each faction is assigned its own unique "home regions" in which it is able to recruit units from its factional roster. In the regions it conquers, it is only able to recruit local units and other special variations. More detailed information on the AOR system can be found in this post.

Religion

The modification features the Christian and Muslim religions, which predominate in the modification's campaign. In addition, there are also newly added Hindu and Pagan factions, each with their own new temples unlike the Christian and Islamic churches and mosques. Since religion is important in this time period, the kingdom of Jerusalem can call crusades to aid them if cities like Acre, Jaffa and Jerusalem itself are taken. The Islamic civilizations can call jihads on other factions to reclaim taken lands. They can also train special units only available during a jihad.

Titles System

Broken Crescent features a system of "Titles" which brings an additional level of immersion and realism into the gameplay. Certain titles are based on the ownership of regions, while others can only be attained by killing the present holder of that title. The Abbasids, for example, begin the game with their faction leader assigned the title of Caliph; this title is hereditary; but if another faction leader defeats the Caliph in battle, he will gain the title.

New Units

Broken Crescent features hundreds (250+) of completely new units made from Scratch by the skinners AlphaDelta and Strelac. The differences and variety of looks within a unit are seen far more, rather than minor differences, and the faction is balanced and unique with each having its own set of strengths and weaknesses.
