The Hōjō clan is one of seven playable samurai clans in the original Shogun: Total War. In the Mongol Invasion expansion pack, they were the only samurai clan to feature, controlling all of Japan.


Gameplay

Starting Position

As per the 1530 campaign in the original Shogun: Total War, the Hojo clan begins with 6 provinces in southwestern Honshū. They are bordered by the Uesugi, the Imagawa, and the Oda.

Advantages

In Shogun: Total War, though each faction is similiar in terms of units, buildings and culture, each playable clan has their own unique advantages in campaign, depending on their starting position. The Hojo are no exception, and they have two advantages:

  • Castles are cheaper
  • Player starts with a higher amount of Koku
