only differences on this to Perikles's are links under "other reading" and "M2 modding" thought I'd try it here instead of messing up other one. Makanyane 02:26, 17 April 2007 (CDT)

Perfect, I'll put this on the front page. If you want to add anything just edit the front page copy now, Thank you to Mak and Spiff. --Perikles 10:07, 17 April 2007 (CDT)

Released Modification Quick Finder

does anyone think this would be worth doing ? Probably split between M2 and RTW/BI.. not that user friendly to edit but only way I can think of to get a quick lookup - if anyone likes it what other categories should be in - I was wondering about map type - european , fantasy, other geographical...

This looks good to me - other possible sortable categories could be "Released" - "Yes/No". A seperate table for each game would be the best idea i think to make things easier to navigate. - Spiff

Ah I was only intending to do this for released mods at the moment. Ones in progress don't tend to have set information for the other categories; mod_folder, campaign map, even game its based on can change as things are developed! I was thinking about splitting by game I think you can navigate the actual thing OK by sorting that at last minute but it would probably make it easier to edit. If I keep the game category (so it includes patch version as well) I can make it as three tables on same *page and they can get added back together if anyone else prefers that. --Makanyane 04:01, 9 May 2007 (CDT)

HOW THE.. do you make a table sort BC dates?

The three tables in the article now have various attempts at making it work and none do.

I really can't understand why the top one where I just 'added' 10000 to what should be the sortable bit doesn't work!

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Sorting has example tables I've tried duplicating here and they don't work - is that because I'm missing the smd template? Does anyone understand what that is??????

Sorry Mak I have absolutely no idea about sorting tables, Sim might though. --Perikles 04:59, 12 May 2007 (CDT)

Great idea, excellent tables. Just a few comments: some mods have partial modfolders - as a player (sic!) I would like to know which ones are 100% modfoldered before I spend my time downloading it only to find it interferes with another mod/vaniila or even a modfoldered mod drawing from above (and possibly causing more than visual problems); submods should be listed (and what they are a submod of); enhancement rather than just 'milieu' mods should be included (e.g. Darth formations etc.). I wonder if symbols could be used to cut down on space or would this making sorting harder? Just one thing to complicate your dates - you know that 'AD' should really be written *before* the date (if the sorting is reading the alphanumerical value on an ascii chart rather than the number value itself then it might work to switch the BC to precede the date too and use leading 0s?) - (p.s. I've never edited a wiki before so have no doubt got lots wrong! Oh, and Middle-earth should be our map name otherwise you are just repeating yourself) MasterOfNone Palantir 18:04, 12 May 2007 (CDT)

  • Modfolders: can probably split it to Yes: Total and Yes: Partial, but trying to put too much info in will stretch table too much (I can't find way of having multiple rows of text in a cell so it just gets wider if you're not careful).
  • Sub-mods I'd just put in campaign map section to explain why some things don't have campaign map. Might be better explained some-other way, as sub-mod for instance additional campaign for RTR as against enhancement mod eg. Skymod which can be added to most other mods.... (needs thought)
  • Symbols might work - if things only need to be grouped and not sort in specific order - otherwise you could probably have hidden text which sorts it and a jpeg dislayed? Need to experiment..
  • Tried switching AD and BC around and adding 0's to get it to sort on alphanumeric basis only (example table added as 1st one) that sort of works but BC dates still end up wrong end of AD and it looks ugly with the 0077 so I'd need to work out hidden sort still? Help guide seemed to imply default sort was by number value so I can't see why I can't get the one with hidden number value only to work!

Will come back to this when I've got more time. Welcome to the Wiki! --Makanyane 04:55, 13 May 2007 (CDT)

Hmmm..weird. Are dates actually necessary? Can you not use eras with a qualifier? Or would that be too vague still? (Roman - republic, Roman - empire, Greek - ancient, Fantasy - Middle-earth, etc. - hopefully that would sort properly) Palantir 15:33, 13 May 2007 (CDT)

will have a look at that as well - thought problem would be getting things split into limited number of categories - too many categories would make sort pointless. Also alphabetical sort isn't necessarily going to put similar things people are interested in together. I thought date time line might be more likely to group areas of interest - but, meh, getting stuck, will try populating individual tables a bit more / once they are split by game there might be less need for that column anyway! --Makanyane 15:38, 16 May 2007 (CDT)

Tables removed to prevent dead links. Thanks all for help. For old content see Released_Mods development particularly for M2 still needed! --Makanyane 13:06, 27 May 2007 (CDT)
