V1650 is a mod for Empire: Total War set in the 17th century, focusing on the Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (the Dutch East India Company) and the Netherlands, though other factions are also enhanced.

History

The mod was released in December 2011 after a period of initial development of a couple of months, with further development continuing since then. Though development slowed down somewhat due to inactivity of part of the team, the latest version (1.5) was released in June 2012. the mod also featured on the Total Warcast in March 2012.

Features

  • A number of new units, including some individual regiments, correct for the time period of the mod (and one bonus unit from the Napoleonic era).
  • Warships have new textures, and the visual effect of naval battle damage has also been enhanced.
  • The campaign map has been altered to more accurately represent the world in this era, especially in the case of the Americas and India, where the Netherlands as well as Sweden have been given territory representing their colonial efforts in the regions. Other changes include having the Commonwealth, Scotland and Ireland instead of Great Britain, which had yet to be formed and was currently under the control of Oliver Cromwell, and other borders between other european factions being changed, with Poland-Lithuania gaining more territory.
