The Saxons start with a number of rebel provinces nearby and no major power close to them allowing the creation of a strong homeland in Northern Germany. The Saxon player can then choose between expanding Eastwards onto the steppes, attacking South-West along the Atlantic coast, or developing a navy and attacking Britain. Following the Eastern route is easier overall as there is more space to expand into and fewer powerful enemy factions.
