Strategy guides

The Saxon player can then choose between expanding Eastwards onto the steppes, attacking South-West along the Atlantic coast, or developing a navy and attacking Britain. Following the Eastern route is easier overall as there is more space to expand into and fewer powerful enemy factions. The Atlantic or British route mean fighting against the Western Roman Empire and is significantly more dangerous. The Saxons are unlikely to have the financial muscle to attempt more than one.

History

The Saxons were a Germanic tribe invited to work as mercenaries by the Romano-British after the Roman withdrawl in 410AD. Led by the brothers Hengst and Horsa the Saxons overthrew the Romano-British taking their lands for themselves. Those lands are now called England after the Angles, another tribe who came with the Saxons. The result is that the English are a Germanic people and speak a German dialect to this day. Many towns and cities in England were founded by the Saxons, the largest of which is Birmingham
