Overview

Portugal are one of the factions in Medieval II: Total War that can be unlocked by either defeating them individually during the campaign or by winning a campaign overall. They can also be made playable by modding.

For fairly obvious reasons they start the game adjacent to Spain.

Units

The Portuguese have excellent and possibly the best skirmishing units with good missile and melee attack, this also includes good gunpowder units such as Aquebusiers. They have access to Jinetes, Portuguese Knights and the best navy in the game along with Spain .

Early Situations

In the beginning, Portugal starts out with just Lisbon and Pamplona, and it can be difficult expanding from there. Eventually, the Moors or the Spanish will attack you, so either keep large armies in your territories, or defeat them, because betrayal is likely to happen.
