Gaul General's Bodyguard
Name: The Gauls
From Game: Rome: Total War
Culture: Barbarian
Playable:

The Gauls are one of the playable factions in Rome: Total War. They can be played after successfully completing a campaign as a Roman faction or if unlocked by modding / cheats.

Game Play

Gauls are barbarian civilization, it is very hard playing them because they start just above The House of Julii which seeks expansion.

Starting Position

Gauls start in modern France and upper Italy. they control few cities in France and two of them are bordered by House of Julii in Italy, they are also bordered by Spain to the east and Britons to the north.

Their cities are:

ALESIA- Capital

CONDATE RODONUM- Safe inside empire, located deep inside modern France

PATAVIUM- High population growth , bordered by Julii, upper Italy

LEMONUM - Safe inside empire, located deep inside modern France

MEDIOLANUM - Located in upper Italy , bordered by Julii

NARBO MARITUS - Bordered by Spain to south west

NUMANTHIA - Located near modern day Madrid

Win Conditions

LONG CAMPAIGN: Hold 50 regions including Rome SHORT CAMPAIGN: Hold 15 regions and outlast or destroy Julii and SPQR

Units

Gauls are fierce fighters and have many infantry but few cavalry support. Infantry can use warcry, special ability that takes 10 seconds to preform and gives attack bonus next 30 seconds.

Unique Units

Naked fanatics: Can be recruited by building certain shrines, have high attack damage, they are specific to barbarian factions including Spain.

Druids: Can be recruited by building certain shrines, Gauls share this units with Britons. They chant to raise morale of nearby troops and lower it for enemies.

Forester Warband: Can be recruited by building either a certain shrine or an archery range. They can hide anywhere and can slug it out with some light, medium and even some heavy infantry.

Strategy guides

One possible strategy is to build a massive army in beginning of game and attack the House of Julii before Marian reforms occur. It is possible to utilise barbarian tactics of out-numbering the oppenent and a full on charge to beat the opponent into submission. You can do this because of the high numbers in barbarian units. You might also have to deal with Britannia, Germania, or Spain. In any case, if you let the Romans get the Marian reforms, your units will be hopelessly outclassed.
