Game Play

Starting Position

Macedon starts in Greece and Macedon itself of course. Macedon is a challenging faction to play, as plague will soon strike Thessalonica.

Win Conditions

Long Campaign:Hold Rome and 49 other provinces.

Units

Macedon has pikemen and strong horsemen, including the famous Companions. They are also able to recruit Cretan Archers as mercenaries.

Unique Units

  • Royal Pikemen: This unit is more like a hoplite unit equipped with long spears than a true pikemen unit. They are the second best spear unit in the game.
  • Companion Cavalry: These cavalry men have a powerful charge,as well as melee capability.
  • Macedonian Cavalry: A nimble unit which is easy to train and quite effective.
  • Light Lancers: A fast unit with a incredible charge.

Strategy guides

One possible strategy as Macedon would be to take over the Greeks, then attack the adjacent Romans, before eliminating the Thracians to the north. Then you can either expand against the western barbarians,or cross the Hellespont to face off with Egypt and the Seleucid Empire.

History

Macedon was a prosperous region to the north of Greece, who's first recorded king was Perdiccas I. The kings after him continued to establish control of Macedon, until the reign of Philip III. Philip expanded Macedonian influence into Greece. He planned to invade the Persian Empire, but was assassinated. The task fell to Philip's son Alexander the Great. After retaking Greece, and campaigning against the tribes to the north,Alexander invaded and seized the Persian Empire,as well as parts of India. His empire fell apart after his untimely death. Macedon survived as a kingdom until the reign of King Perseas, who was defeated by the Romans.
