The Gauls are one of the playable factions in Rome: Total War. They can be played after successfully completing a campaign as a Roman faction or if unlocked by modding / cheats.

Game Play

Gauls are barbarian civilization, it is very hard playing them because they start just above The House of Julii which seeks expansion.

Starting Position

Gauls start in modern France and upper Italy. they control few cities in France and two of them are bordered by The House of Julii in Italy, they are also bordered by Spain to the east and Britons to the north.

Their cities are:

  • Alesia - Capital
  • Condate Rodonum
  • Patavium
  • Lemonum
  • Medolanium
  • Narbo Maritus
  • Numanthia

Victory Conditions

  • Long Campaign: Hold 50 regions including Rome
  • Short Campaign: Hold 15 regions and outlast or destroy Julii and SPQR

Unique Units

  • Naked fanatics: Can be recruited by building certain shrines, have high attack damage, they are specific to barbarian factions including Spain.
  • Druids: Can be recruited by building certain shrines, Gauls share this units with Britons. They chant to raise morale of nearby troops and lower it for enemies.
  • Forester Warband: Can be recruited by building either a certain shrine or an archery range. They can hide anywhere and can slug it out with some light, medium and even some heavy infantry.
