Hungary is an unplayable minor emergent faction in Empire: Total War.
Overview
Hungary is located in central Europe, right in the middle of the conflicts between Austria, Poland-Lithuania and the Ottoman Empire. For this reason it is one of the most common factions to emerge when its region is conquered and it rebels against the invaders, or if Austria taxes it too highly. Hungary can only emerge in one region, Hungary, which begins the campaign under the control of Austria. It is a minor faction, and a Catholic absolute monarchy.
If it does emerge, Hungary can be a pain for Austria, firstly because they have lost a region to it, and because Hungary is Austria's most populous region so they gain a large amount of tax revenue from it. More importantly, Hungary is located right next to Austria's capital, Vienna and because the two have historical grievances with each other, there is a fair chance Hungary will go to war with Austria and it has the potential to take their capital. Hungary could potentially ally with one of Austria's enemies: Poland, Prussia or the Ottomans, and join the war against them that way. Since it is a very populous region Hungary has the money from taxes to field a large army and may develop into a formidable power if it is not crushed by its neighbours.
Starting position
Hungary does not exist at the start of the grand campaign but the following regions can spawn the Hungarian faction if there's a succession rebellion:
Pressburg, Hungary in 1700
- Starting Buildings - Military Governor’s Encampment, Settlement Fortifications
- Infrastructure - Basic Roads
- Population - 4,051,868
- Wealth - 450
- Religion - Catholicism 80.0%, Protestantism 20.0%
- Starting Towns/Ports - Balaton Farmland (Peasant Farms), Csongrad Farmland (Not Developed)
- Later Villages/Ports - Banska Stiavnica (Village), Buda & Pest (Village), Szeged (Village), Nyiregyhaza (Village)
Details
Hungary fields similar units to Austria but does not get the 25% manpower bonus that Austria does. Since they are landlocked they have no navy, but if they conquer a coastal region they are able to recruit the same ships as other European factions.
Hungary has access to Hungarian Hussars and Hungarian Grenadiers. However, it loses its ability to recruit its units if it upgrades its capitol to a Royal Palace or parliamentary equivalent.
