Starting Position
Dagestan is sandwiched between Persia and Russia to the south and north and has Georgia as a neighbor to the west. Along with Georgia, it is the only minor nation to operate in this region, and so it faces similar threats and challenges: expansionist Russia to the north, Persia to the south, eventually a powerful Ottoman empire, and each other. The most significant threat to Dagestan is definitely Russia, who may come thundering down from the steppes very quickly after reforming. Dagestan may also have a serious threat from Georgia, which usually outclasses Dagestan militarily and often declares war on it. However, it also frequently allies with Georgia. This pact may be a headache for both Russia and the Ottoman Empire, as they threaten the usually ill-defended regions of Armenia and Don Voisko. Dagestan's land is very poor, and with only a single meager yield farmland to raise revenue it is likely to stay that way throughout the game.
Uniquely among Muslim factions in the game, Dagestan fields and trains a European-style army, despite its buildings and agents all being in the same style of the other Muslim factions.
