Usually during the campaign Austria will quickly easily conquer much of the Balkans as well as much of Germany and Central Europe. However, in most of the campaigns they'll eventually ends up making too many enemies and are then slowly pushed back on all fronts by the usual combination of Sweden, France, Poland, Prussia, and Ottoman empire. Then they are finally destroyed.

The best example i've seen of this was when Austria had command over all of Germany, most of Italy and the Balkans, and even some territories in Eastern Europe, but then they were pushed back by Poland (Freash from conquering Russia), Republican France, and Sweden

Overview

Austria Monarchy Flag.jpg Austria Republic flag.jpg

The Austrian Empire lies in central Europe and poses the main European bastion against the Ottoman Turks. For centuries, the two nations have been fighting against each other and the Austrian military has become strong and organized as a result. The east and south of Europe offer many possibilities for expanding. Furthermore, Austria wants to keep and defend its supremacy over the Holy Roman Empire and the German lands. While Austria does not have any colonies, its lands are prosperous and fertile. The Empire doesn't need a powerful navy and its strong land army should serve as a hefty deterrent for any foreign power. However, the weakened Ottomans are still a major enemy and Russia is also eager to expand further into Europe. On top of that, the small Prussian kingdom is rising in the north and will use every opportunity to expand its territory.

In conclusion, Austria is surrounded by many possible adversaries. Therefore, the Empire has to utilize diplomacy in order to prevent a war on multiple fronts. However, while dealing with foreign affairs, Austria has to keep an eye on the events within its borders as well. The Hungarians are not very happy under Austrian rule and would love to found their own kingdom. They might well start a rebellion if there aren't enough Austrian troops to keep them in check. As a result, a smart Austrian ruler will have to find the right balance between enlarging his territory, forming essential alliances and avoiding internal strife.

Starting Position

Austria begins the game with a total of 6 regions. The whole Austrian Empire is located in the European theater as the country doesn't have any colonies. While Austria's province Croatia does border the Mediterranean Sea, the rest of the country has no access to the sea. Therefore, Austria is a very land based nation which is reflected by its strong army yet weak navy. Austria's capital is Vienna which is also its most developed city. However, Hungary is the most populous region, followed by Bohemia & Moravia.

The Austrian Empire borders Bavaria in the west, Saxony, Prussia and Poland & Lithuania in the north and the Ottoman Empire in the southeast. The country does not start at war with anyone and is allied to Bavaria.
